Eczema (Atopic dermatitis)
Atopic eczema is a common, reoccurring type of dermatitis which is caused by an abnormal reaction to the body’s immune system. The word “atopy” or “atopic” often describes a group of diseases such as hayfever, rhinitis (runny noses) and asthma that occur together. It often is inherited in families.
The cause of atopic eczema has not been narrowed to one particular factor but higher sensitivity to chemicals, dust mite, woolen clothing and some animals as well as “leaky skin” and abnormal inflammatory cells have been debated.
Dr Millar offers a wide range of treatments for stubborn eczema, including newly researched “probiotic” lubricants, prescription creams, allergy testing, light therapy and oral medication.
