Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)

Excessive sweating is an embarrassing and uncomfortable affliction which affects millions of people.

It induces anxiety and can disrupt all areas of a patient’s life such as job choices, sporting activities and self-image.

Several types of treatments are available including underarm injections (which paralyse the sweat glands), iontophoresis, oral medication (for diffuse sweating) and lastly, surgery to the sympathetic nerve chain.

Anti-sweating injections (botulinum toxin) are available for underarm sweating to eligible patients. If eligible, a Medicare rebate is available for under arm sweating injections, the out of pocket fee is affordable and subsidised every four months.
